ABOUT NBOS

NBOS is an integral part of the Government’s drive to transform Malaysia into a developed country and it focuses on the social transformation agenda;

The objective of the transformation agenda, along with the Economic Transformation Program (ETP) and the Government Transformation Program (GTP) is to help move Malaysia towards a high-income nation;

A high-income nation, we believe comprises of individuals who synthesisers: people who are able to synthesise and make sense of the over abundance of information, solve problems, design innovative solutions and constantly be able to help create and capture value.

NBOS refers to the National Blue Ocean Strategy which has been a new approach adopted recently by our Prime Minister, Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Haji Abdul Razak to be adapted and implemented by the government, within all projects and initiatives for the rakyat.

ALL NBOS PROJECTS OR INITIATIVES SHOULD
FULFILL FOUR MAIN CRITERIA:

RAPID EXECUTION
LOW COST
HIGH IMPACT
SUSTAINABLE

Through NBOS, more than 80 ministries and agencies to collaborate in developing and implementing initiatives of Blue Ocean Strategy that have a creative and transformative nature to the country, while turning non-customers into customers alongside bringing together new ideas, while fulfilling the four main criteria of NBOS. Currently, there are many initiatives that actively involve the police and military, women, youth, and higher education organizations. To monitor, track and further strengthen results from all these initiatives, a National Strategy Unit (NSU), was formed under the purview of the Ministry of Finance (MOF). NSU’s role is to overlook, facilitate, monitor and track results and progress of NBOS initiatives, while fostering collaborations and partnerships amongst different ministries and units.

MOF’s involvement to spur entrepreneurship originates from the NBOS initiative,1Malaysia Entrepreneur (1MET). The 1MET initiative under NBOS encompasses an array of efforts and activities geared towards spurring entrepreneurship, as a nation. This was brought about upon the closure of the Ministry of Entrepreneurship Development (MeDC), where a call for a united and coherent effort towards building an entrepreneurial nation was much needed. The main objective of 1MET initiative is to inspire, motivate & support young/startup entrepreneurs. All agencies and units within 1MET initiative are to champion that objective, given the mandate and target segments that they ought to serve.

Coding@Schools is an initiative that was announced in the Budget 2016 by the Prime Minister under the area of Accelerating Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Currently, Coding@Schools is curated by Startup Malaysia, serves as a project of NSU, under the auspices of MOF.
